The Old Castlemaine Gaol presents a night of comedy, magic, jokes, fire-eating, silly songs and general all-round mayhem when the inimitable Mic Conway from Captain Matchbox and Circus Oz hits town for one night only.
This quintessential 1920s vaudeville and cabaret act will see Mic Conway joined onstage by multi-instrumentalist Matthew Fagan for a night of unusual and idiosyncratic tunes that will make jaws drop, toes tap and sides split.
Stripped back, irreverent and shameless the night will feature some of Captain Matchbox’s favourites like “My Canary Has Circles Under His Eyes” and a fiery version of "Masochism Tango" as well as a swag of Conway including "Jug Band Man" (which was featured on Spicks and Specks, September 2011).
Fresh from sold out shows at Edinburgh and Adelaide Fringe Matthew Fagan opens the show with Lord of the Strings!
Matthew Fagan is a virtuoso guitarist and will be performing on a unique 10-String Spanish Guitar, Celtic Steel String Guitar, Tenor Ukulele and Weissenborn Style, Hawaiian acoustic lap steel slide guitar throughout the show.
A particular highlight of Matthew's performance is his national television hit rendition of J.S Bach's Toccata on Celtic Steel String Guitar.
Matthew has toured with international celebrities Natalie Cole, The Original Buena Vista Social Club, Billy Connolly, Shirley Bassey and Michael Crawford . The 53 night tour with Billy Connolly was so successful that Billy presented Matthew with one of his prize banjos at the end of the tour and was quoted saying
"Matthew is the best guest artist I have ever toured with." Billy Connolly
