To celebrate the release of The Fearless Note, the new CD by ARIA award winning singer-songwriter, Kavisha Mazzella, Kavisha will perform for one night only in the Old Castlemaine Gaol.
A gifted storyteller, the songs transport you on a global journey, with songs inspired by her travels to the Gypsy Festival at Saintes Maries de la Mer in France, to Assisi Italy and back home celebrating the vastness of the Milky Way stars of a Castlemaine sky—exploring feelings of love, lust, despair, fearlessness and joie de vivre along the way.
One of Australia's best folk performers, Mazzella has been a part of the Australian acoustic music community since the late 1980s. A major part of her inspiration comes from her unique multicultural heritage, through her Irish-Scottish-Burmese mother and her Italian father. Her songs combine the ingredients of earthy, sensual vocals with deep lyrics that have humorous, poetic, social justice and mystical themes.
Kavisha is a winner of various awards including the 1998 ARIA award for her album Fisherman's Daughter as best world album and the Italia Nel Mondo Award in 2000 for her contribution to the sharing of Italian culture in Australia. In 2004 she was awarded Port Fairy Folk Festival Artist of the Year, in 2008 the Multicultural Commission excellence award and in 2011 Kavisha was awarded and Order of Australia for her contribution to singing, song writing and reflecting the experiences of refugees, indigenous and multicultural communities in performance.
